According to the latest news from Xinhua News Agency, my country's first self-developed 8.5-generation TFT-LCD glass substrate was rolled off the assembly line in Bengbu, Anhui on the 18th, and mass production is expected to follow.

It is understood that the TFT-LCD glass substrate is a key strategic material in the electronic information display industry. The size of the 8.5-generation TFT-LCD glass substrate is 2.2m×2.5m, and it can generally cut 6 55-inch screens. Its core technology has long been monopolized by a few foreign companies.

In recent years, my country has quickly become the world's largest information display industry base. LCD panel manufacturers such as BOE have built multiple 8.5-generation TFT-LCD panel production lines in China, and the domestic annual demand for 8.5-generation and above glass substrates is 380 million square meters. Prior to this, the 8.5-generation TFT-LCD glass substrate required for large-size LCD TVs in my country completely relied on the technology and products of foreign companies.

It is worth noting that the offline glass substrates will provide key raw material guarantees for my country’s LCD panel industry after mass production. According to the relevant person in charge of the Bengbu Glass Industry Design and Research Institute of CNBM, the project team will continue to carry out yield improvement, capacity ramp-up and product certification after the product goes offline.
