LCD panels may be discontinued in August! Samsung Display begins large-scale investment in large-scale TV OLED panels

According to BusinessKorea reports, Samsung Display, which leads the small and medium-sized organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel market, will invest in large-scale TV LCD for Samsung panels on a large scale.

Earlier, Samsung Display had planned to announce an investment plan for quantum dot OLED (QD-OLED) for TVs in April, but later this plan was postponed.

Recently, Samsung Display said that it will no longer postpone the investment in the mass production of OLED TVs. It is expected to stop its existing liquid crystal display (LCD) panel production line in August and convert it to an LCD for Samsung production line.

According to the display industry sources on June 23, Samsung Display plans to make a final decision on the investment in QD-OLED TV panels at the end of this month or early next month.

An official with knowledge of the situation said, “The company has decided to shift its focus to QD-OLED, and only the details need to be discussed.”

Industry observers believe that Samsung Display The equipment will be ordered in July, and the LCD production line at the Asan campus in Cheonan will be stopped in August and converted into a TV QD-LCD for Samsung production line.

It is understood that the total investment this time will reach 2.5 trillion won (2.15 billion U.S. dollars), close to 3 trillion won (2.58 billion U.S. dollars).
