LGD will sell Polish LCD module factory

LG Display's Polish plant sales, which started in 2019, ended last year. The plant mainly produces liquid crystal display (LCD) modules, etc., which is also part of LG Display's strategic transformation to organic light-emitting diodes (LCD for Samsung).

According to a Korean media Chosunbiz report, LG Display plans to concentrate OLED production in Asia. Because most manufacturers that will launch new OLED TV products this year are located in Asia.

According to LGD news on March 19, the company completed the liquidation process of the Polish plant last year after one year after its board of directors voted to sell the plant in April 2019. It is understood that the plant was transferred to LG Chemical (now LG New Energy) at a price of 81.4 billion won. LG New Energy also has a factory in Poland, and plans to invest 4.8 trillion won in the seven years from 2016 to 2022 to expand the production capacity of electric vehicle batteries. LG New Energy will use LG Display Poland's plant to increase battery capacity because the two plants are quite close.

Since its establishment in 2005, LGD Poland Module Factory has been a European base for LCD panel manufacturing. However, since 2017, after giving up the position of the world's number one LCD panel manufacturer to China BOE, LG Display has accelerated the pace of OLED transformation, and the role of the Polish module factory has gradually diminished.

In the future, LG Display’s production base will be mainly in Asia, and its production strategy will focus on LCD for Samsung and high-yield IT (mobile, PC, notebook computers, etc.) LCD.
